Fantastic simple food well prepared and served by friendly staff who will have a good conversation with customers if given a chance! Loved it and recommend it to anyone. Great atmosphere too.

Under new management , it's had a make over and is looking good. The food was delicious and I was pleased to see the prices the same. Loads of vegan options and yummy wraps. Now stays open till 4.30

Been a few times recently. Was made to feel unwelcome when told 'you've come just in time' it was about half two on a Saturday, so expeced to be able to order.

Menu hasn't changed in the last thirty years, neither has the decor and when you've walked up the hill you want a bit more.

I became vegan a year ago. I live about five minuits walk from Hunky Dory. This is a wonderful little place with a cafe feel, albeit on a hill!
They offer a lovely selection of vegan food (and veggie), and being greedy I've tried most of it!
I've loved their vegan carrot cake for years, and their noodles and salads, fab ice-cream and most of all the relaxed atmosphere, especially good as I have a stressful job.
The only complaint I have is that the place is small, and seats about 20. There is no room for prams or wheelchairs, and hopefully one day the boss might be able to buy larger premises. Perhaps, when the Hunky Dory opened there were few veggies/vegans in Newport, but times have changed, and there are more of us these days!

A small family business, they obviously care a lot about their food. Simple sandwiches, jackets and specials on toast at £2-4. About 10 specials all around £4.20, e.g. Spinach and Potato Pie with a lovely home made wholemeal pastry and an enormous salad! Open usual daytime hours but has occasional evenings e.g. International Evening, 3 courses (choice of 6 mains) £12.95 + bring your own wine (no corkage). Overall, highly recommended.

Excellent freshly homemade food available at reasonable prices. Staff friendly and restaurant is always busy - a good sign!!
