My husband and I had takeaway from this restaurant while visiting Edinburgh recently.

The food came relatively quickly, and they were happy to serve us a drink while we waited. The waiter understood vegan and was happy to point out the vegan dishes, which were quite a few.

The food itself was really good, and included a couple of unusual starters, rather than the usual Indian fare. The prices seemed pretty reasonable for the quality of the food. They warned us the aubergine was spicy, and they weren't joking!

We would definitely return here if we fancied Indian food while next in Edinburgh. The restaurant itself is really well decorated and would be nice to spend an evening in.

Excellent food, pleasant staff and reasonable prices. I would recommend the Vegan thali wholeheartedly.

Recommended! I ate here on a Friday night. I did not make a reservation, but the restaurant was very busy & I saw other people were turned away. It has a great atmosphere & is beautifully decorated. I ordered the Vegan Thali. I had to wait 45 minutes for my food. The menu does not specifically indicate any other items that are vegan. Drinks were very expensive & in small glasses. The food was delicious however.

we have been living in Edinburgh for last 15 years and the best vegetarian indian restaurant we enjoy having is at Kalpna, we have had visitors from India resently, whom we had taken for the first time to the restaurant Kalpna, who were so impressed with good food, quality of the service was excellent we had taken them back at both times to eat different variety of foods served at lunch time and the prices were very reasonable for our guests from india. who have said , that when they come back again to scotland, kalpna is the restaurant for them, as they are vegetarians.
Kalpna has been renovated recently and we like the new out look of the place, it looks great, and this is the restaurant for me and my family and friends

i would recommend this for any vegetarians in uk or oversea visitors, this is the place to eat and have a good indian atmosphere (just like home)

Absolutely wonderful!

I don't mind saying that I'm not a pure vegetarian, I do occasionally have lapses (despite my best intentions) but the food at Kalpna could make me forget about meat forever. It is definitely how all vegetarian places should be. It is even more than a match for most Indian places I've been to.

The staff are great (I even got to try some Indian wine...who knew they made wine - it was lovely) and the atmosphere is lively too. They just changed the decor and its all very chic now, which is the one thing they were missing.

Great food, great atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent value. Highly recommended!

We found the staff friendly and attentive and the atmosphere relaxed and as a fussy vegetarian I found the food very tasty, not your stereotypical greasy, heavy indian food which we have sampled in many restaurants in the past. My non vegetarian boyfriend also found the food very pleasing and we have visited the restaurant on may occasions with the standard of food and service never slipping from the previous visits. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, very reasonably priced too.

Highly recommended mmmmmmmmmm!!!!!

Very disappointing.

My wife and I went for a mid-week dinner after a superb performance at the nearby Queens Hall by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and regret the after taste.

The staff were uninterested. The food was very poor quality, with the salad being obviously stale and soggy. The curries were simply reheated affairs, and had no taste. We did not have the courage to try any of the desserts.

We were appalled that people would recognise this as "Indian" "food".

The atmosphere was stereotyped, and pricey for the quality. We spent £33 for two people without drinks or dessert, but inclusive of a sneaky 10% service charge!

Avoid like the plague.

Delicious home-made Indian food with lovely dosas. Menu features the dishes you'd expect to see plus some more unusual ones. The kulfi is lovely for dessert. The quality of the food is fantastic. The decor is quite plain, but with food like this, who cares.... The menu represents very good value for money.

Highly recommended.
