Grassroots Cafe 93-97 St. Georges Road Telephone: 0141 333 0534 OPENING TIMES ![]() Vegetarian: Fully Vegan: Options Organic: Options International Modern Caroline Snow (Inverness) wrote on 25 October 2008 Just down the road from their fantastic shop is their equally good restaurant. Most starters & main courses are vegan & the menu changes seasonally so that us regulars can try something new. June Parsons (Surrey) wrote on 7 May 2007 Great choice of food and organic beer/wine in a venue with a lovelyambiance. Excellent customer service style - the waitress was very wellinformed about all the options for vegans on the menu and which beer/winewould compliment the food. Prices very reasonable for the quality provided- around £18 per head for a starter, main course, wine and tea. If you'rein Glasgow this is a veggie/vegan place not to be missed! Mary (Abergele) wrote on 1 January 2007 The food here was lovely and tasty. The menu was varied with plenty of choice. What we had was good size portions, filling and nutritious and I would definitely visit again. As a vegan the sweets menu was limited. Prices were reasonable, about £6.50 a main course and a bottle of organic wine was about £9. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and children were catered for. Anne (Twickenham) wrote on 6 November 2006 This place is still going strong and hugely popular. We were spoiled for choice by the menu and the food was very good. The portions are big too, so only go here when you're hungry! We went for the burger and chips and the curry of the day, and both enjoyed the meal hugely. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed, the prices reasonable. Sadly we didn't have time to linger, but this would make a lovely night out. Maire Kennedy (Glasgow) wrote on 22 November 2004 This is a lovely small cafe/restaurant. The menu is limited, but what's on it is very good. Again, the wine and beer list is small but interesting - they have a lovely Chilean wine which I would highly recommend. Relaxed atmosphere with excellent food, specials are always good and it's all at a very reasonable price. Be warned that if you don't book you'll have trouble getting a table at night. Barry O'Dwyer (Amsterdam) wrote on 3 June 2004 This small (30-odd capacity) cafe/restaurant doesn't pretend great cooking, and it certainly lives down to its lack of pretensions. The menu is limited, the cuisine average at best, and the atmosphere is best described as disinterested. The Thai curry was supposed to be moderately hot, but proved very spicy. It was overcooked and presented on the plate without inspiration. The veggie burger tasted vaguely curry-like, wedged as it was between two huge buns and covered with a houmus sauce that did not complement it. In fairness, the North African side salad was tasty, but again it was let down by unimaginative presentation. To finish, a nice Bamboo coffee, perhaps? Well, sure, but then maybe you have a jar back at home, 'cos Grassroots no longer has it available. "We did once have it, but not any more." The service is adequate, but the staff do not give the impression they are too interested in the clientele. No smiles, no cheeriness. Price - three courses and a soda, approx. £12 per head. Sorry to be so negative, but quite honestly you can get a better veggie meal at numerous regular restaurants in Glasgow, many of which have vegetarian options, and at much the same price. Michael Lee (Glasgow) wrote on 21 October 1999 Relaxed atmosphere with excellent food, specials daily and at a very reasonable price. We had bean burittos with a salsa and guacamole and crostinni. Free water and excellent coffee. We couldn't finish the slice of vegan chocolate cake we had to finish. |
