The Blake Head has long been a good place to eat breakfast, brunch or lunch in York - even if you're not vegetarian or vegan. I take friends and family here whenever we want somewhere to eat, short of wanting a full restaurant meal. There are always some new things on the menu, as well as familiar favourites. A good place for savoury snacks, a lunch meal or just coffee and cake. The staff are always considerate and friendly, and the surroundings are clean, warm, bright and airy.

We have been coming here on visits to York since it opened at the back of the Blake Head bookshop in the late 1980's. It's still going strong and is v. popular - it was even pretty full on Monday lunchtime. If you're lucky, you can park on the road outside. Excellent food with good choice of vegan options, friendly and helpful staff, and a pleasant environment. Around £6 for lunch including coffee.

I really enjoyed visiting the Blake Head. I am vegan and often have difficulty finding something good to eat, but had loads of choices here. I had the soup which was lentil with yorkshire terrier ale - utterly delicious - followed by the paté (butterbean, mint and lemon I think) and then a vegan chocolate fudge slice. I left throughly satisfied and will certainly be returning. Keep up the good work!

The menu here changes daily, so I love the fact that there's always something new to try! Last time I visited I had an individual homity pie with caramilised onions- very very ummy, especially the pine nuts on the top. They have a good selection of cakes which, it is nice to see, are all home made. My favorite is the plum and almond cake. I like the cafe because it is a relaxed place to sit and read the paper on an afternoon, with a piece of cake! Also, the interoir is bright and airy, and the toilets always of a high standard - it's definitely well worth a visit.
