Re Jill C's meal: this must have been on a Thursday evening, when we do a £10 set menu which we call our Feast Night - a bit of lots of dishes currently on our menu (soon to move to Wednesday). A delicious a la carte menu is available on Friday, Saturday and soon Thursday evenings too.

I was visiting friends in Essex, and as I'm a lifelong vegetarian they took me to Cafe Pulse for an evening meal. Most of the tables were full, and there was a friendly atmosphere.

There was a set meal (no choice) of Starters - Mezze comprising homous, brie parcels, 'cumberland sausage' (why call these delicious ball-shaped things SAUSAGE???) cheese & herb toast etc. More than enough for three of us, and mostly delicious.

Main course - Sweet potato and red pepper, fried rice, risotto, chickpea curry and salad leaves. Also good, and plentiful.
We were too full up to have dessert, all of which sounded rather filling too.

Price?? I don't know, as I was being treated, but I couldn't see any prices displayed. My hosts said they had been before and never been given a set meal.

This was the first time i'd been to the restaurant, I'd heard thatthe food was good but pricey for what you got so i think that'swhy i'd stayed away. The food was very good and yes it waskinda pricey but it's one of the only places near where i live thatdoes vegan food so i'm not too fussed. We had Pitta bread withdips for starters, pasta for the main and vegan chocolate cakewith vegan custard for pud. The dips were very good, we gotloads of pasta and the chocolate cake was fantastic!!!! Mygirlfriend loved everything as well and she's not vegetarian orvegan. At the end of the day it was well worth going there justfor the fact that i'm not having to constantly ask if there's anydairy/animal products in the food + it's close to home which is abonus as well!!! one more thing good organic beer!

We went to Cafe Pulse for the 1st time on Sat 28th April 2007 for anevening meal. The food was excelent and the staff very friendly. Between the2 of us we had 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 pudding, 1 coffee and a bottle ofwine. The total bill was less than £50 which is normal for restaurantquality food which this definitely was. We really enjoyed ourselves and willbe going back when next in the area. The only suggestion for improvement wehad is that the overall decor could be improved, candles on the table, tidyup the counter area, pictures on the walls etc, make it a bit lesscafe-like in the evenings. To the earlier person who thought £18 for avalentines meal was alot, we didnt find anywhere charging less that £25 ahead this year.

I am a vegan and have been going to Cafe Pulse for over a year as it is the only fully veggie eating place in Essex. It is a small cafe with friendly staff, used to have great cakes but over the last few months the cakes have been made by the owner and are not a patch on the choc vegan cake they used to have - and the menu is OK for a cafe but not the same quality you would get if eating in a veggie restaurant in London or Brighton - but Cafe Pulse still charges restaurant prices. I was disappointed with my valentine meal which cost £18.50 for a few overcooked vegetables for starters and a bowl of pasta with minute flavour for main and chocolate fudge cake for afters which was the best part of the meal, considering how the cakes have gone down hill. Good place to take children but I think it could be done better and the prices keep going up.

Menu inspired from around the globe, including many unusual vegetarian/vegan dishes.  Good vegan cakes (especially with icecream!), and the cheesecake is delicious.

I have been going to this restaurant/cafe for about one year. I have to recommend this place because not only is the food excellent but the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. I understand they now do private bookings for groups and have themed nights with different foods from around the world. If you ever find yourself in Leigh, you have to try this place out for yourself - ask for one of their freshly made juices (healthy and gorgeous).
