Took a bit of finding because although not far from town, it's still a little bit out of the way if you don't know the city, that's not their fault though. Hmm, first impressions were "Should have gone to Pizza Express", nice enough place, bit basic, food ok but nothing impressive. Had a nice enough meal but not what I was looking for.  Certainly not a David Bann in Edinburgh and more for the locals than the visitors as not open on an evening.

Roots and Fruits is a very special place. The staff there are incredibly friendly and helpful. However, the thing that really makes the place is the food, and the quaint atmosphere. It is not a michellin star style 'posh place'. Roots and Fruits is a cute, relaxed and welcoming cafe type restaurant that serves simple, yet amazingly tasty food.

Not too impressed here. I ordered a main salad which was bland and basic looking served with only a generic dressing. Unfortunately I felt it was overpriced for the size. The staff were friendly enough, but the image of the place didn't do it any favours - some of the decor and menus looked a bit too old and tatty.

The dishes were varied and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was extremely relaxed and the staff very friendly. It was possible to get vegan versions of vegetarian meals on request. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
