I have been to Hitchcocks on three occasions, all three providing a different theme of food. Not once have I been disappointed. The staff could not be more helpful; the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxed; and the price is fantastic. You can even take your own wine (with a minimal corkage charge). How anyone can complain is beyond me!

A student "restaurant". The wine was totally awful, almost undrinkable. The food was OK for a buffet, all you can eat place. I wouldn't go back though. The most positive thing was the price; it was cheap. The atmosphere was a OK, but we were not keen on the mould on the ceiling!

A novel idea for service, a bit like school dinners, but with excellent food. There is a problem though if you end up at the back of the queue - the food is getting cold and the time you go back for second helpings it's too cold to eat. A heated servery would sort this out.

£15.00 set price includes starter, main course and dessert, with tea or coffee afterwards. The starter is served at 20.00, which is followed by a buffet-style main course. Pile your plate high! Desserts are usually served between 21.30-22.00. The food is always delicious, and vegan options are always available - just ask. Very friendly, down to earth atmosphere. Be prepared to get a cab home though - you won't be able to walk afterwards from fullness!!

As a vegetarian it was a fantastic change to go somewhere that offered more than just a dried and curled up lasagne on the menu! It is a brilliant place, with never ending choices of dishes and a wonderful, querky atmosphere. The staff are very helpful and the prices are more than generous considering it really is all you can eat!

I love this place so much - I've only been a couple of times because it's such a long way to travel but it's really worth it. All the times I have been I have never complained and the staff were especially helpful pointing out food which didn't contain dairy products. Great place - read other reviews for descriptions of food.

Atmosphere - brilliant - can't begin to describe - go and see for yourself. Special dishes - whoever books first for an evening chooses the theme for that night. Price - £12 per head for as much as you can eat. Take your own wine - £1 corkage. We had a Mediterranean theme - the food was first class and plentiful and very varied. Levae room for the puddings, even if you're not usually a pudding eater - it's worth it. Rest assured that however much you make a pig of yourself, there will be someone else with a bigger plateful. Laid back, friendly and very very reasonable.

TOTALLY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE...FIRST BOOKING OF THE NIGHT PICKS FOOD - ITALIAN, CHINESE, INDIAN, MEXICAN ARE POPULAR, BUT I'VE ALSO HAD RUSSIAN, BOLIVIAN, WELSH, AND GERMAN THERE. IT'S CONSISTANTLY EXCELLENT AS WELL AS BEING GREAT VALUE: THE ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT BUFFET OF 3 COURSES AND COFFEE IS JUST £10, £8 UNWAGED. CHEAP BAR TOO! PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST RELAXED PLACES I'VE EVER EATEN IN, AND A REALLY VIBRANT ATMOSPHERE ON THEIR BUSY WEEKENDS. NIGHTS. KIDS WELCOME, I GATHER, AS WELL AS BIG GROUPS.. DO NOT MISS IF IN THE AREA!!!!!

The food at Hitchcocks is to a chosen theme, this can be English, Italian, Indian, Russian, Jamaican, Argentinean - in fact it can be from any country in the world. The first person to book on a night gets to choose the theme. There is one sitting at Hitchcocks and everyone thus eats together. Arriving at 8pm you will be shown to your table and served shortly afterwards with starters in keeping with the theme. While you're eating your starters the serving area will be covered (and we mean covered!) with a large selection of food in keeping with the selected theme. This will be a mixture of main bits, appropriate vegetables and many other side dishes. You help yourself to these array of dishes, taking as much or as little as you desire. When you have cleared your plate you can go up again, and again and again. However don't eat too much at this stage because you will need room for the delicious deserts. These aren't to the night's theme and are typically chocolate gateaux, pecan pie, apple crumble, cheesecakes, fresh fruit salad and soya ice-cream.You can then round this off with coffee or tea, including a great selection of fruit teas.
