Lovely place but I want to point out that strictly speaking it's not vegetarian...they serve seafood including tuna dishes! It wasn't a problem for us but I have to say, I don't like the fact that a "vegetarian" restaurant serves seafood as it makes it even harder for us veggies to cope with meat-eaters who cry in horror "oh so you don't even eat seafood?"

The Hexham Tans is unusual in that is operated by the local mental health trust as a means to get people back into work.  It is popular with shoppers.  Serves cakes, several varieties of scones, light lunches and snacks.  Prices very reasonable.
