The Beano The Guildford Institute Telephone: 01483 562142 E-mail: gi-reception@surrey.ac.uk OPENING TIMES Fully Vegetarian International Tracy Stokes (Woking) wrote on 12 September 2007 An absolute treasure in a town/county where there's very little in the way of vegan/vegetarian fare. A main meal is £4.25, main meal + 1 salad £5, and main meal + 2 salads £5.75. There were about 8 vegetarian main course options and 1 vegan, and all salads were vegan. The food was fresh and delicious. Desserts looked good, we didn't have any. A nice relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They're also open on the first Saturday of the month (in term-time). Marten Tasker (Guildford) wrote on 24 March 2006 This is a treasure for veggies - run by the Guildford Institute, which is an off-shoot of Surrey University, this not-for-profit little restaurant offers an excellent selection of dishes, which change daily. The restaurant is on the first floor of the Institute which is just off North Street in the town centre, and has a charming old-world atmosphere, more like a cosy dining room than a public restaurant. It's popular so it is best to get there early as the dining room is not huge, although there is a small tea-room to one side (open from 10am for tea/coffee only). The food is varied, fresh and really tasty, and the prices amazingly low compared to most commercial venues. My partner and I visited The Beano on 24 March 2006, and had the "special deal" which consists of a main course, two salads, and pudding for £5.95 each. Excellent value for money, both in quality and quantity. There were seven different main courses, five salad selections, six different desserts available, plus a starter (soup) , and a choice of hot or cold (non-alcoholic) drinks, and home-made cakes. If you are in Guildford during the week and want to get away from the usual smokey, noisy commercial places, and want a 100% vegetarian meal, try The Beano. |
