This is the most creative veggie menu we have seen in the whole of the UK. On Valentines Night they were still queuing in the street at 10.30pm for a table. I especially loved the grilled hallumi tandoori kebabs and the dessert of sweet boiled egg with chunky pineapple soldiers. It's not cheap so prepare for that. The only disappointment was the dressed down clientele so don't posh up or you will look out of place. Jeans seem the norm. Alison (Lewes) wrote on 12 September 2007 I have eaten here perhaps a dozen times, and feel that the previous short coming (service being a bit slow) was much improved on my last visit, which was on a Saturday evening, when you would expect them to be pushed as they are so busy. The terre a tapas is a great way to taste a selection of main courses, but the best bit had to be the doughnuts with a chocolate dipping sauce and vodka soaked cherries. It was divine and vegan too. It is not cheap, particularly when you add wine, but is worth it as a special treat. Nice atmosphere and a small patio outside. Booking is absolutely essential, particularly at peak times. Cheynne Gibbs (London) wrote on 30 August 2007 Friendly service but food was slow coming out, possibly due to the fact it was so busy. Food was delicious and well presented, the tapas starter was superb, but the prices were shocking (especially considering there are some brilliant vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Brighton at much more reasonable prices) and lacked the laid-back Brighton atmosphere. Overall, a very good eatery, but the atmosphere and prices probably more suited to London. John Hardman (Bolney) wrote on 17 July 2005 We chose Terre à Terre after reading good reviews on this site, visiting on a busy Saturday night. Service was very friendly but very slow, with mistakes made at both our table (appetisers failed to appear on time - one came after the starter, the other didn't come at all) and at the adjacent table. Starter was delicious (as was the bread that came with it), the one appetiser that finally appeared was ok but not great. Recommended wine was good. The main course and desserts however were disappointing - an attempt at producing unusual flavours ended up overpowering and indeed ruining most of the meal, with too much fennel in the case of the main course and too much mint in the case of the dessert. Everything was presented very well, but working too hard at making things interesting and the poor service on that particular night made it a disappointing meal. Price for two with just one glass of wine, plus pear juice and water each, was just over seventy pounds (excl. tip). Would I go back ? Perhaps, but not at peak time and not in the near future. Paul Sheard (London) wrote on 8 February 2005 Absolutely fantastic. I've been vegan for fifteen years and just had one of the best vegan meals! Well done! Port pie was amazing! With char grilled mushrooms and cranberry cabbage... the starter of fennel and licorice soup was inspired. Lovely decor, friendly staff and I'd pay twice the price for a great meal like that! Debbie Deboo (Woodford Green) wrote on 21 July 2004 Fantastic! A restaurant that sells top notch vegan food and doesn't look like a country cafe! Beautifully presented food that's a real taste sensation. It's so cool to be able to get vegan desserts that isn't a plate of fruit too. Bit on the expensive side but it's a real treat to eat here. Jackie (St Ives) wrote on 3 May 2004 Best Veggie food I've ever had! It wasn't a problem getting food at lunchtime (out of season) but they do say you need to book for an evening meal. Remember to leave room for puddings! You can take away lush Vegan choc truffles too. Veggie Heaven!!!! |
