Oh how I wish The George was closer. I visit Brighton about 4 times and year and make sure i visit The George every time.
Wonderful atmosphere, amazing food and a menu that makes eating out for vegetarians (vegans) the pleasure that it should be.
Can't say enough good things about this place. LOVE IT.

Service ok, not really interested in customers, very mechanical. Had the 'George Burger' Only it wasn't George's, possibly from Fry's, very processed tasting, was supposed to be in a whole meal bun but wasn't and not pre-warned. No Soya milk for a drink and felt like they could not be bothered, place was not dirty. It was an average meal, such a shame as we went there last time on holiday and the food was great now it is just O.K. Ah well now is the time to go and explore all the other veggie/vegan places, so perhaps a push we needed, Bye Bye George.

I have visited The George many times with friends, vegs and non-vegs and we have always enjoyed it. A non-veg friend was suspicous about the veggie bacon she received on her full English breakfast, but apart from that everyone has been content. Many people here have complained about the place being dirty, something which I have never noticed when I've been there myself. The food is reasonably priced with most dishes between £5-£7. Most of the non-vegan dishes are available as vegan, if desired. However, I have experienced on more than one occassion that staff have forgotten that I ordered the vegan option. This is my only real problem with The George. I would reccommend vegans, therefore, to make extra sure the staff has understood that you want the vegan option. Once I have got the right food, it has never been disappointing!

The toilets next to the loo are horrible!! We had no other option but to sit there the last time we went but in hindsight I wish we had just gone somewhere else! The food is unimaginative - and the menu hasn't really changed in the last couple of years. Unfortunate, as I really want to like this place and had a nice experience the first time I went (although that could have just been due to the sheer joy of being in a veggie pub!)

I have been going to the George for nearly 20 years. It used to be fantastic; great food, pleasant environment and friendly staff. A big group of we vegans used to meet and eat there all the time. Unfortunately the same can not be said now. The food can be great but can be dreadful, the place is filthy (i'm sorry but it's true), the staff sullen and the music is TOO loud. The George has become complacent and relies on a reputation which is long gone. Vegetarians and vegans deserve better, get it together The George.

Oh dear, we waited nearly 2 hours for sunday lunch, the kids menu promised "a glass of fruit juice, a piece of fruit and an activity pack with every meal" but we got none of this... won't be back!

Super veggie/vegan food, very good size portions, a place where our kids will all eat well as well as ourselves, and they are picky, picky, picky. We did not find the place dirty, we were only bothered by having to walk past smokers at the table next to the loos! I am extremely smoke sensitive so it makes it an ordeal for me. My only criticism is that as a veggie pub, they could have by now been more health conscious and pro-active and banned smoking in the whole of the indoor area, which they have not yet done - they only have separate areas which all the research shows is not adequate to protect non-smokers from the smoke. The smoking ban is coming in anyway, and any place that does it ahead of time will get more business from the majority of the public who prefer non-smoking pubs and restaurants! Most veggies and vegans prefer smoke-free, so why are you waiting for the national ban?

Can't understand why Marten Tasker gave such a poor review! I have visited The George on many occasions over the years and I have invariably found the food to be good for the price. It's a pub not a Michelin * restaurant. Smoking is not allowed in the side room and the place is normally reasonably clean. I have never had a more enjoyable veggie meal in a non-veggie pub as I find being around others chewing away at animal body parts a great turn-off.  This place is superb if you want to have a drink and something good to eat away from animal eaters. Get on down there!

Visited this pub today and had "veg. bangers & mash in red wine sauce". The pub is dirty, to the point of being unhygienic, especially with tables situated right by the toilet doors! The tables were not cleaned between customers, so we had to move the previous customer's litter off our table. The overloud "music" emanating from the loudspeakers made conversation difficult without shouting, which many customers were doing anyway. I was turned-off by the fact that smoking is allowed throughout the whole pub (except the bar !!?). Not what I expected in a vegetarian eatery. The service was abysmally slow, and the food when it eventually came was tepid, the mash was lumpy, the sausages tasteless, and the whole dish was drowned in gravy. On the whole, very poor value for money, and I would not recommend anyone going there. A very bad example for a vegetarian place. I have had far more enjoyable vegetarian meals in non-veggie pubs.

A pub. Patio area at the back. Nice Bangers and mash etc. Well priced. They have a fine list of veggie and vegan wine too.

Feature your restaurant.
