Are you vegan or do you have any allergies? If so - beware - the meals labelled as vegan at Bean There (mushroom flan and salad, burger and salad, tomato bake and salad) were NOT vegan when we ate there yesterday.

The salad they were served with contained dairy/egg mayonnaise. The cafe has recently been taken over, and the previous owners had used non-dairy mayonnaise.

We spoke to the female owner about this issue, as we felt it was very misleading to label something as vegan which actually wasn't. Not is it mocking people's rights to make choices about the food they eat, but there could be serious implications for allergy sufferers. The owner didn't understand the point we were making about the need for correct labelling, didn't apologise for serving us food containing dairy and egg, and was actually very rude.

I try to give vegetarian cafes my support, but I was extremely disappointed with the lack of awareness about a vegan diet here, and the way in which our complaint was dealt with.

Having been patrons of the restaurant for many years beforehand, we had our wedding reception and meal at Bean There in 2004. It was a suitably special venue on a very special day for us both. The owners and staff have invested a lot of themselves into making it more than just 'somewhere to eat' - consequently we have a lot of happy family memories associated with it, and hope to eat there again someday.

Prices are very reasonable considering the quality and variety of the food on offer. The selection of puddings come especially highly recommended!

We have been vegetarian for 21 years and this is definately the besteating place we have dined in within the UK (and we have dined in many!)Thestaff are great and the vast menu even better. Bridlington might not be themost obvious place to have excellent healthy, organic food but it is wellworth incorporating a visit to 'Bean There' with a bracing coastal walk.

Bean There is my favourite veggie food and watering hole. Not that I'm biased or anything because I design their leaflets but the Bean There Gang are absolutely passionate about their food, service and the environment. As soon as you walk in the door, see a smiley face and feast your eyes on the food, you know that at that particular point in time all is well in the world and it's good to be alive. My favourite dish would be the black olive tart served with huge portion of assorted salads. The homemade bread is just lovely and favourite puddings are too numerous to mention. Try it, you don't know what you're missing.

We've been there twice recently!!! Food excellent - spoilt for choice. Wholesome home- cooked good quality food. Staff are very friendly and the restaurant is child friendly. Our three year old really enjoys herself there. Excellent value.

As a non vegetarian a visit to this restaurant/cafe has certainly changed my opinion and appreciation of quality veggie food. I found the grade 2 listed building very refreshing and welcoming. The owner/chef served the food and made my initial hesitancy as to what to choose from the vast menu a small detail. The menu is too vast to detail but all ingredients are organic, everything is home-made *you must try the variety of breads* and puddings to die for. The average meal ranged from £3 to £5. I was so impressed that after lunch I found myself booking a table for the Saturday evening, and the fact the cafe is a BYO made the evening a very affordable occassion. I am now a convert but alas I have not found anywhere to meet the high standards that Bean There offers. I now find many an excuse to visit Bridlington as I need to sample the menu again and again and again.
