The Blake Head Vegetarian Cafe 104 Micklegate Telephone: 01904 623767 OPENING TIMES ![]() Vegetarian: Fully Vegan: Options Organic: Options International Laura (Sunderland) wrote on 28 May 2009 My husband and I had lunch in the cafe today and it was fantastic. The food was delicious and the staff were lovely - they were happy to adapt my dish to include an alternative ingredient. I had paninis which came with a delicious salad and my husband had the veggie sausage baguette which he said was very tasty and filling. Overall, the place had a lovely atmosphere. It was hot and sunny today so quite a few people were sat outside. Very busy inside and out but didn't feel overcrowded. Jenny (York) wrote on 12 January 2009 The Blake Head is a such a lovely little cafe, a few minutes walk up Micklegate so is a brilliant option if the city centre itself is really busy. There are always loads of vegan options to choose from, including both main meals and more sandwich-y type things, plus cakes and pastries. The cafe is behind the bookshop and is lovely and light and airy and it's clear that they put a lot of thought into their vegan options. Highly recommended for lunch or just a coffee (and the shop is nice too). John M. (York) wrote on 26 March 2008 The Blake Head has long been a good place to eat breakfast, brunch or lunch in York - even if you're not vegetarian or vegan. I take friends and family here whenever we want somewhere to eat, short of wanting a full restaurant meal. There are always some new things on the menu, as well as familiar favourites. A good place for savoury snacks, a lunch meal or just coffee and cake. The staff are always considerate and friendly, and the surroundings are clean, warm, bright and airy. Peter (Longley Green, Worcs) wrote on 18 September 2007 We have been coming here on visits to York since it opened at the back of the Blake Head bookshop in the late 1980's. It's still going strong and is v. popular - it was even pretty full on Monday lunchtime. If you're lucky, you can park on the road outside. Excellent food with good choice of vegan options, friendly and helpful staff, and a pleasant environment. Around £6 for lunch including coffee. Nicola Marsh (York) wrote on 13 November 2002 I really enjoyed visiting the Blake Head. I am vegan and often have difficulty finding something good to eat, but had loads of choices here. I had the soup which was lentil with yorkshire terrier ale - utterly delicious - followed by the paté (butterbean, mint and lemon I think) and then a vegan chocolate fudge slice. I left throughly satisfied and will certainly be returning. Keep up the good work! Lucy Holgate (York) wrote on 30 July 2002 The menu here changes daily, so I love the fact that there's always something new to try! Last time I visited I had an individual homity pie with caramilised onions- very very ummy, especially the pine nuts on the top. They have a good selection of cakes which, it is nice to see, are all home made. My favorite is the plum and almond cake. I like the cafe because it is a relaxed place to sit and read the paper on an afternoon, with a piece of cake! Also, the interoir is bright and airy, and the toilets always of a high standard - it's definitely well worth a visit. |
