I was very disappointed with the quality of the food. We chose a la carte, expecting it to be fresher than the buffet. The onion bhajis were luke warm, mostly made of batter with almost no onion. I think they were heated up, not made freshly. The two main dishes we ordered both seemed to have the same sauce on them, and the chunks of aubergine in one were huge.

Generally I think Rani is resting on its rather wilted laurels and relying the fact that is has a captive audience, and needs to make its fairly expensive food fresh, hot and various if it wants me to go back.
I've had much fresher, better vegetarian Indian food in non-veg Indian restaurants. A great pity.

Food at Rani is incredible and above average! The quality is incredible and they use the finest and freshest ingredients. The staff are amazing and the food is guaranteed to impress even those meat eaters who don't enjoy their veg. There is so much choice whether eating the buffet, or off the al la carte menu. Definitely give this restaurant a try. You won't be disappointed when you visit this wonderful gem tucked away in a road just minutes away from Finchley Central Station. Enjoy!

We've been going to Rani since it started as a bright innovative cafe-style Indian veggie, through the times when it had daily buffets, and now when it has settled into a more conventional and more up-market type restaurant. The prices are higher and the decor is smarter. The food is still fabulous. The other day we had a 'feast for four' - about £20 each - more than enough quantity and great variety and quality of dishes. In the menu they mark vegan dishes and also dishes containing dairy products and nuts.
