Demuths 2 North Parade Passage Telephone: 01225 446059 Vegetarian: Fully Vegan: Options Organic: Options International English Steve (england) wrote on 30 June 2011 We went to bath recently, and having read reviews was unsure whether to return to a restaurant I have eaten at several times previously. We gave it a go and my was it a good decision! I have never had a bad meal there. The food has always been nice but used to be more rustic. The food is now so beautiful that people were taking photos before they tucked in. The miso aubergine is sublime. We dined recently at a michelin star restaurant. They service there was impecable but the food was not as good as Demuths. I wish we lived nearer so I could go again more easily. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to anyone whether you are vegetarian or not. The flavours on offer will not disappoint. Steve. Hannah (Midlands) wrote on 14 December 2010 A wonderful restaurant in the heart of Bath, I can also highly recommend the cookery school attached to this restaurant. The food is interesting and delicious. However, I am really sad they no longer open for breakfast, reading the Guardian travel section while eating spinach, poached eggs, tamari mushrooms on seeded bread of a morning is my favourite thing to do in Bath when I visit. Go now, but book in the evening, it gets very busy. Jo (Leigh-on-sea) wrote on 9 August 2010 We ate here last week while visiting Bath for a few days. It was the best vegetarian food I have had for a very long time. The menu was original and the food was delicious. Although not cheap, it was very good value for money and worth every penny. The service was excellent. I will definitely go back next time I am in Bath. Freya (Oxfordshire) wrote on 19 April 2010 Went to Demuths on Friday 16th April and as ever the food was amazing & the staff lovely - have eaten here several times and the food is consistently fabulous and diverse - I love it! Grace (Newmarket) wrote on 5 April 2010 Was really disappointed with this restaurant on the two times my boyfriend and I have visited. The food was really lacking in flavour and left me feeling a little cheated. It felt like because I was veggie I was expected to be happy to eat bland, tasteless food which was ridiculously overpriced and over hyped. Having read all the good reviews this restaurant had previously received I was very much looking forward to eating here, but I do not think I will be returning again. The staff were friendly enough, but the place lacked atmosphere. I Matt (Bath) wrote on 1 April 2010 This restuarant is quaint, bright and airy. The staff were attentive and courteous and happy to reccommend from the menu. It was almost impossible to choose, as every single item sounded delicious - yet the food still managed to exceed our expectations! Great selection of refreshing homemade soft drinks, and a wide variety of world cuising. I cannot reccommend this place highly enough, we will be returning regularly! Rae (London) wrote on 2 April 2009 The food was amazing!!!!! The staff were friendly and helpful! We had to wait a few minutes to get a table because the restaurant was that full and well worth it! The prices were reasonable but not cheap! The food was so good we're thinking of doing a cooking course with them! Cindy (Berkshire) wrote on 17 July 2008 A small restaurant with pleasant decor and atmosphere. We visited at lunchtime on a Saturday and were lucky to get the last table. Service was very good, despite it being busy, the waiter was friendly and efficient, and happy to linger and chat once the rush was over. The food was excellent and beautifully presented, with the main courses decorated with flower heads. My only criticism is that the starters and main courses were not large enough, especially considering they are on the expensive side - you would need 2 or 3 courses to feel satisfied. However, the desserts made up for it - mouthwateringly delicious, and generous in portion size. Recommended, despite being quite expensive. Sarah (Sherborne, Dorset) wrote on 24 September 2007 I'm a new regular at Demuths and every time i go find it to be an absolute delight!! The staff are always warm and welcoming and nothing is ever too much trouble and the food is generously portioned and obviously freshly prepared! The menu is inventive and seasonal and delicious too of course!!! The restaurant is charming and very cosy.. perfect for a candlelit romantic dinner for two!!!! It's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.. and there is a special mon to weds two courses for £16.95 which is pretty reasonable..all in all ..great!! Emma Holmes (Staffordshire) wrote on 14 September 2007 Excited to find a quaint vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Bath, what a birthday treat! Food was amazing and well worth the money, even my meat eating fiancé enjoyed it as much as i did! Atmosphere was good, the staff were pleasent but struggled to crack a smile, they need to cheer up! We will definitely return. Try it and you'll love it. Verena (Frankfurt) wrote on 30 July 2007 Pretty little restaurant with tasty food but a quite limited choice of dishes and tiny, very expensive portions. I guess, they expect that you take a full course dinner to be sated. The food is good but not what I expected for this high price. One reason for this might be, as I understood, that they are changing the dishes from time to time, maybe the food is usually better. So, if you are prepared to spend something like £50 on a dinner, go to Demuths. I think you can have definitely better and cheaper vegi-food in Bath than this. Sam (Bristol) wrote on 5 June 2007 I totally agree with Larau from Birmingham. Since this place was taken over it really has got much better. I can't afford to eat there every week, but I try to eat there every time I'm in Bath. Laura (Birmingham) wrote on 19 June 2006 Got taken for Sunday lunch there as part of a romantic weekend! Read the reviews here and didn't think it was worth going but then had a look and gave it a try. The food was gorgeous, loads of vegan and healthy choices, organic beer, friendly service, you get what you pay for! It wasn't cheap, it was good value for great food (2 courses each, 1 beer each, £30 inc. tip). Would definitely go again. Someone did tell us that 6 months ago it changed hands so maybe that's why our experience was so good compared to others. The tables were a bit close to each other but it was beautifully decorated. Paul (Chandler's Ford) wrote on 22 November 2005 APPALLING. Made a reservation for lunch but when we turned up there were no spare tables. Were kept waiting standing in entrance for 15 mins amongst jam-packed tables. As a diner I wouldn't like to be packed-in like that with other people standing right next to me waiting. Eventually told our reserved table wouldn't be available... This place should close. (Much better to go to "The Wife of Bath" around the corner, perfect.) Anna (Bury) wrote on 11 July 2005 For my Mum's birthday we were hoping to book 5 of us into Demuths for a lovely meal. However, it turns out that you cannot book a table for more than 4 people on a Friday or Saturday evening. They wouldn't even consider a booking for two tables if we split our party. The staff were extremely unhelpful & dismissive. They were more content to chatter amongst themselves than try to help me out with suggestions or what not. It was so awful that I never intend to go there. I don't care that it has excellent food reviews - the attitude of the staff was so depressing. Can I suggest the excellent & helpful 'Walrus & Carpenter' around the corner in Barton Street. Vegetarian with many vegan dishes, very cute & lovely staff. We turned up at 7pm on a Friday & they had no problem seating 5 of us immediately even though they swiftly filled up after we arrived. Jane Buntin (London) wrote on 16 May 2005 I've been to this restaurant on several occasions and always thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It does get busy, but saying that I've never booked - just always turned up and hoped for the best and have always got a table. Admittedly it's not the cheapest restaurant, but you do get a nice big portion of food. The menu seems to change regularly, and the food is delicious! (Especially the vegan chocolate fudge cake.) The vegan milk shakes and cooked breakfast are pretty good as well! Overall I'd really enjoyed going there, and anytime I'm in Bath I make the effort to go back. Jacqui Wilson (Maidenhead) wrote on 6 April 2005 We went to Bath to celebrate our anniversary and, being a vegetarian, I thought I could not give up the chance of trying Bath's only vegetarian restaurant. I requested a nice table which they gave us, right next to the front window. The restaurant was fully booked and lots of people were dropping in on the off chance, so it's obviously very popular. The atmosphere was nice, not stuffy but also not too busy or hectic. The food was lovely - we started with the bondas and the brochettes, both of which were lovely and not too filling. For main courses we had the Ethiopian Stew and the Tofu stir fry - both of these were large portions and really tasty. The stew came with lots of small portions of rice, bread, salads etc - a real selection. And the stir fry was great (if anything - too big!). After such a lovely meal I just had to sample one of their desserts (even thouch I was pretty full by then!). Unfortunately they were sold out of 3 of the deserts so I opted for the dark chocolate cheesecake (to share of course!). The whole meal came to £75 which included a bottle of wine and coffees which I think is a fair price for good quality food of good portion sizes. The service was good although our starter took some time to arrive - however the waitress did come and apologise so we can't complain. All in all, I would recommend Demuths for a great vegetarian meal with a nice relaxed atmosphere. But my warning is, book early! |
