Who said you didn't have a right to voice your opinions? Why do you assume your opinion wasn't respected? Critics have a right, yeah? The service and manners in there can be unbelievably bad whether you agree or not.

I am indeed for real, and have been to the Cafe Galatea many many times, from 1996 through to 2009, so I think I have the right to voice my opinion and have it respected, whether others agree with it or not. I can't understand the negative reactions this restaurant attracts at all. I've never seen any trouble during my visits, and the food has always been great.

No, don't give it a go. All I can say assuming Caroline is for real, is that you were damn lucky. You'll see !

I love the Cafe Galatea! We always visit whenever we're in the area, and have always found the staff to be courteous and helpful. We're not actually vegetarians, but the food is so good it makes no difference (check out the enchiladas!). The service takes time, but I prefer that to being rushed. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, and the prices very reasonable. When I read the previous negative reviews, I felt I had to add my twopenn'orth. Do give it a go!

Made a booking via phone and were advised a large party were in around 30 minutes prior to our desired time, and we were advised a little later would be better. Nice idea, and about as good as the service got.

Having visited Cafe Galatea before, we had waited a long time for food and drinks (the latter arriving after the meals), but the food was worth the wait, so decided to give it another go on a rare chance that my wife and I have to get out. Mistake....

Booked for 7.30, arrived at 7.25 and spent 10 minutes waiting to be seated. Once seated we waited a further 20 minutes without even being given the chance to order a drink or be offered a menu.

Didn't wait any longer and went elsewhere.

Uuuurgh, God, vile women. Hideous, horrible. Grudge bearing maniacs forever. They'll never learn or change. Everything's someone else's fault forever.

Oh at LAST, someone has the sense and courage to speak openly of that awful woman. What a tyrant. Everything in the place is good, the food, price, art work, even the staff, but NOT the owner woman! She seems to have a really nice side to her at first, but then NO. Rude, spiteful, nasty, judgemental, and things worse than I can express. I made the fatal mistake once of making a mild and polite complaint because we had waited over an hour for our food. "We make all our orders individually", she snapped. "I see", I say, "but an hour, when there are only three other people in here?" "Maybe you should leave then", she not quite shouts. She then storms off somewhere. We then see her stamping up and down the place, eyes blazing, and glaring wildly, leaving us wondering if we were to be served or not. We didn't dare ask of course, so we had to leave. Absolute horrible nightmare!

Well, I used to eat there all the time, and the food is seriously excellent ! There's no doubt about it. It's vegetarian at its' best.
The price ? Totally OK, well reasonable.
The service ? OK, but very slow. I don't mind that though because the food is so good, and well worth waiting for !
The staff ? Not good at all. The woman whom I think is the owner is a nightmare. I found her to be a bullying, super opinionated, trouble making, interfering, grudge bearing, feminist thug. The other lady is OK, but will always side with the bully in the never ending events of trouble. The turn over of staff is huge, I wonder why ?

We have returned here several times, and will continue to do so - the atmosphere is really tranquil. Cafe Galatea serves a variety of the freshest, crispest salads we've ever tasted, with differing nutritious accompanying dishes. You can also buy crystals, jewellery, art and throws/cushion covers. As strict vegetarians, looking for quality and originality in a restaurant, we would highly recommend dining here - open for lunch and dinner, but I think is closed either Monday or Tuesday. I would check before. Meals are freshly prepared to order, and reasonably priced around £6-7 for a main course. I would say booking is essential for the evening. Our next visit will probably be in the earlier part of an evening when it may be quieter - we have dined later in the past and waited several hours from starter to dessert.
